Donate Now!!

…and Karma Yoga Outreach is proud to be participating in this year’s Giving Partner Challenge, a major annual fundraiser sponsored by the Community Foundation of Sarasota.

megha dance parkinsonsAs you probably already know, Karma Yoga Outreach Inc. brings the therapeutic power of yoga to special groups of people, including veterans, at-risk-boys, children with special needs, people with Parkinson’s Disease, and people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. We are so pleased to be part of the Giving Challenge this year, as it is a way that YOUR donations can make a BIG IMPACT through a matching gift from the Patterson Foundation.

Please join us on September 20 & 21, noon to noon, for the 2016 Giving Challenge! Donors like you who care about local causes will have the opportunity to go online, make a gift, and watch your favorite organizations (like Karma Yoga Outreach!) raise dollars for human services, the arts, the environment, animal welfare, education, and more during the Challenge.

This year the Patterson Foundation will generously provide a 2:1 match for contributions from new donors – for donations up to $100 per new donor, per organization. Additionally, it will provide a 1:1 match for contributions from returning donors – for donations up to $100 per donor, per organization. The minimum gift is $25. Since Karma Yoga Outreach is new to the Giving Challenge this year, that means that all of our gifts will be matched 2:1 this year!

The easiest ways to participate in the 2016 Giving Challenge are:

  • Give online
To make a secure online contribution using your credit card to a nonprofit of your choice, simply use the “Donate Now” link at the top of this page, or go to https://givingpartnerchallenge.org/npo/karma-yoga-outreach-inc during the 24-hour period and make a donation that will be tripled! (maximum matching grant will be $200 per individual donor, so make the most impact by donating $100 or more.) Remember, noon on Sept 20th until noon on Sept 21st only!
  • Do Yoga With Us!
Join us at Garden of the Heart at 1pm on Tuesday, September 20th for a free, stress-relieving yoga class led by Maureen Gillum. Feel the impact that yoga can make on your body and mind. After a blissful Savasana, we will guide you through the process of making a donation right from your cell phone or on the computer. It’s fun and easy!

The minimum donation for the Giving Challenge is $25. But any and all donations are welcome and appreciated. If you wish to make a donation under $25, you can do so at Garden of the Heart Yoga Center by cash or check, or make a donation of any amount online through our Pay Pal account, (but PayPal donations won’t be matched.)  You could also set up a recurring monthly donation on Pay Pal, so that your giving has an impact month after month. We need your help to keep our awesome programs running!

Thank you for your support. You can really Be the One to make a difference.harriet-cheryl-vignette

Summer Lovin’ was a huge success….. Thank You!

The students and teachers at Karma Yoga Outreach want to thank you for your amazing outpouring of donations at our Summer Lovin’ Fundraiser. We raised enough money for our summer and fall 2016 programs! Here are a few pictures from this fun evening:

We enjoyed delicious food and drink from JR’s Old Packinghouse Cafe, fabulous live music by Randall Buskirk, and had a wonderful presentation led by Karma’s Director, Harriet Roberts, and other teachers in the Karma Program. The Silent Auction was lots of fun too, with great items donated by local artists, businesses, and students from Garden of the Heart Yoga Center.

One highlight of the event was the slideshow created from pictures of the Veterans Yoga, Kids Yoga and Yoga for Parkinson’s classes. The music in the background is sung by Cheryl Chaffee, one of the founders of Karma Yoga Outreach. Click on the picture below to watch and listen.

And once again, a huge amount of appreciation goes out to our donors and sponsors:

Much gratitude goes to all of our sponsors for helping to make this wonderful evening possible!

Two New Grants Awarded to Support Karma Yoga Outreach Program of Yoga for Children with Special Needs

We are so excited and deeply grateful to IberiaBank for its generous grant to supply the children in our Yoga for Children with Special Needs program at Ave Maria Preparatory School with unique props to enhance their yoga experience. A special thanks must go to our angel, Elisa Graber, Community Reinvestment Act Liason, who championed our cause. Elisa has received a raft of loving and adorable thank you letters from the children, who are thrilled. In addition to blocks, straps and new yoga mats the grant went to purchase Hoberman spheres and other equipment to enhance concentration, balance, and playfulness.

In addition we have received word that Community Foundation has conditionally approved an Immediate Needs Grant to Ave Maria earmarked specifically for the Karma Yoga Outreach program so that the children can continue their yoga into the spring term without hiatus. These grants will be instrumental in enhancing the lives of these beautiful and amazing children.

We still need another $800 to bring the program all the way to the end of the school year. And of course we continually need funding to keep the program going for future school years so these special children can continue to flourish. So please click the DONATE button on this page and give whatever you can.  You can even make your donation recur monthly to help support us all year long.

Our program of Yoga for Children with Special Needs is unique. Now in our second school year, we currently teach all 65 children ages 6 though 22 enrolled at Ave Maria Preparatory School in Myakka City. The program has been so successful that the school’s administration has made yoga the first period of each school morning

Our brilliant and compassionate yoga instructors, Kerri Ann Stulce and Heather Tweed have advanced certification in teaching yoga to children with special needs. The program is specifically designed to integrate the practice of yoga to parallel and support other therapeutic modalities in addressingdifficulties with attention, self-regulation, speech and language, learning, and high and low muscle tone. This specialty yoga is geared specifically towards children with diagnosis that include High Functioning Autism/ Aspergers Syndrome, Sensory Processing Dysfunction, Learning Disabled and ADHD.

Since its inception in November of 2014, the program has had notable results. The academic faculty has noted that the children are noticeably calmer and less easily over-stimulated, less impulsive and distractible, more skillful at behaving within social boundaries, less disruptive or oppositional, better able to focus and more agile and able to engage their bodies more skillfully. Academic performance has shown marked improvement overall. Several faculty members have expressed their enthusiasm for how especially responsive and bright their children are in class after they have had yoga that morning. We are the only organization of yoga professionals in our community to offer this special service.

Karma Yoga Outreach, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non- profit organization, which depends entirely on donations and grants.

Please donate what you can. Any amount will help support these beautiful and special children the continuation of the transformative healing benefits of yoga for them.

Local Kids with Autism Need Your Help!

Every morning, children at the Ave Maria Preparatory School in Myakka City take yoga as their first period class.  While having yoga instruction at school is unusual on its own, what makes this program even more remarkable is that the kids at Ave Maria are all special needs children, and yoga is having a positive impact on the rest of their school day.
